Can my child have medication at school? Yes, as long as the proper forms are filled out. Over-the-counter medication must be in the original un-opened bottle. Prescription medication must match the Physician form exactly. NO MEDICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT THE PROPER FORMS. ALL MEDICATION MUST BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL BY THE PARENTS OR GUARDIAN. Please see page 17 of your child's agenda for more information. Can my child carry their medication with them? All medication must be locked in the clinic except for insulin, inhalers and epi-pens. Are cough drops considered medication? Yes. They too must be accompanied by the proper forms and kept locked in the clinic. It is suggested that they try peppermint instead, which they can keep with them. Can the nurse do pregnancy tests? No. Can my child come to school with pink eye if they're on medication. As long as the student had been taking the medication at least 24 hours. How do I get my child on homebound? Either the student or the parent can pick up a homebound packet from either the School Nurse or Guidance. The forms must be filled out as directed and returned to the Central Office. The homebound committee meets weekly, on Wednesdays at 1pm. What modifications can be made if my child is on crutches. A student on crutches is allowed to leave each class approx 5 minutes early with a "buddy" to carry their books. They are also permitted to ride the elevator. |
