This class will give you an experience in the study and performance of different styles of dance. The course will include instruction in proper dance technique, performance skills, and dance history. We will cover Body Mechanics, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Tap. Guest Instructors will teach Latin, Irish, Swing, and African. Conditioning of the body is encouraged daily. Weekly exercises focusing on the abdominals, arms, and legs are stressed as will cardiovascular workouts. This class will review and continue the experience in the study and performance of different styles of dance. This class will continue to review and continue the experience in the study and performance of different styles of dance. The course will include instruction in proper dance technique, performance, choreography skills, and dance history, but focus on developing skills and knowledge to apply dance in a variety of careers. What do I wear during Dance Class? Exercise Clothing Ladies - Shirts must cover bust and mid-section. Any type of exercise pants or capris can be worn. Shorts are permitted, but tights or pantyhose must be worn with them. Gentlemen - T-shirt and exercise shorts or pants. Shoes - Ballet or Jazz Shoes are preferred, but socks are permitted. Tennis shoes are only acceptable during Cardio, Hip Hop and Tap. Conditioning of the body is encouraged daily. Dance I,II, III and IV Dressing Out/Participation (Daily Grade)20% Written Exams 20% Research Presentation 20% Journal Check 20% Notebook Check 10% In Class/Homework Assignments 10% Final Performance Exam (Dance Show)50% of Final Exam Final Written Exam 50% if Final Exam What are the Wildcat Dance Rules? 1. Listen to instructions the first time they are given and follow them. 2. NO Food, Gum or Candy is allowed. Drinks are allowed. 3. Come to class prepared with ALL required materials. 4. Give respect in order to receive respect. 5. You are not graded on ability, but on effort, so HAVE FUN! What are the Classroom Policies? Tardy Policy: 1st offense: 20 Up Downs 2nd offense: 20 Up Downs 3rd offense: 20 Up Downs, parent notification 4th offense: ISS/Detention/Parent Notification 5th+ offense: Varies from parent conference,detention, ISS and OSS Leaving The Room: One hall pass will be given for the class. All students must use the sign out/in sheet for the pass. If a student fails to sign out or is found in a different location than written, the student will be written up for skipping. ISS: If a student is given ISS for their dance class block, he or she is still required to complete the daily journal. The student will be awarded 1/2 of their daily grade adn will be given a 2 page essay topic. |
