What is Fundamentals of Math?

Fundamentals of Math 1 is a resouce level pre-algebra class.  This class 
will be offered to incoming freshman who were enrolled in 8th grade resource 
math or returning freshman who have previously failed the class.  From here 
students will either continue with Fundamentals of Math 2 or Inclusion 
Algebra 1A/B.  Fundamentals of Math 2 and Gateway Algebra/Fundamentals are 
resource level Algebra 1.

Fundamentals of Math 2 is a resource level Algebra 1 class.  This class 
will expand on pre-algebra skills to prepare students for the Algebra 
Gateway 
Exam.

Gateway Algebra/Fundamentals is a class designed to review Algebra 1 
concepts 
and teach test taking strategies for the Algebra Gateway Exam.  Students 
will 
take the Algebra Gateway Exam at the end of this course.

What do supplies do I need?

For Fundamentals of Math 1 every student will need a three ring binder, 
paper, & pencils.

Do I have to purchase a TI-83?

No, but I do recommend it if at all possible so that you have one at home to 
do homework.  The calculators used in class do not leave the classroom.

How are grades averaged?

For Fundamentals of Math 1 grades are divided into 2 categories: home/class 
work & quizzes/tests.  Home/class work will be worth 60% of the nine weeks 
grade and quizzes/tests will be worth 40%.

Can I do extra credit?

Extra credit is extra.  It is offered only when a you have put in the 
time and effort to complete their tests and assignments but even your best 
effort leaves you just shy of a passing grade.

What is the Algebra Gateway?

The Algebra Gateway is one of three Gateway exams a student must pass prior 
to graduation.  All tests are written and graded by the State.  They are all 
multiple choice.  These tests are given approximately three weeks before the 
end of each semester.

When do I take the Algebra Gateway?

Students enrolled in Algebra 1A/B will take the test at the end of Algebra 
1B.  Students enrolled in Fundamentals of Math will take it at the end of 
Gateway Algebra/Fundamentals.

What if I do not pass the Gateway?

Students may take the Gateway as many times as necessary to pass the exam.  
If a student does not pass the exam prior to graduation they will receive a 
Special Education Diploma.

Can I attend college/technical school with a Special Education Diploma?

That really depends on the school.  You will need to check with the 
admissions office of the school(s) you are interested in attending.

What math classes are required?

This varies depending on the path (Tech, University, or General) that a 
student is on.  Everyone is required to have 3 math credits before 
graduation.  A student will receive all math credits if they complete the 
Fundamentals of Math series of classes.

What is inclusion?

Inclusion allows students to be fully involved in the regular classroom.  
The only difference in an inclusion class and all other regular classes is 
that an inclusion class will have two teachers.  There will be the regular 
curriculum teacher and a special education teacher/aide.
