Kinder Music

I am a teacher who strongly believes in the power of song and music in the classroom.  In my Kindergarten class we sing and dance everyday.  The students learn so much from the songs they sing in class.  Each morning we start our day with classroom favorites as well as songs related to the skills we are studying that week.  When the weather prevents us from going outside for recess, most students vote to exercise and dance to our favorite songs rather than play in door games.

Displaying Our Songs

I basically display our class songs two ways.  I either write the lyrics out on chart paper and add pictures clues from clip art, or I make a flip book with multiple pages.

This is an example of one of my song charts.  The lyrics in this song repeat like in the song "If You're Happy and You Know It."

This is one of the last songs we learn in Kindergarten.

This is a flipbook I made for Jack Hartman's "Alpha Bop."

This book was made for Dr. Jean's "Color Words" song.

I use this flipbook for review after we have learned all of our color words.

Other flipbooks I have made to use with Jack Hartman's CD's.

The Five Senses Song
Tune: This Old Man

With my eyes, I can see
Robins nesting in a tree.

With my senses I learn so much!
With my ears, I can hear
Distant noises and sounds quite near.
I see and hear, and smell, and taste, and touch.
With my senses I learn so much!
With my nose, I can smell
Fragrant flowers in the dell.
I see and hear, and smell, and taste, and touch.
With my senses I learn so much!
With my mouth, I can taste
Donuts which are chocolate glazed.
I see and hear, and smell, and taste, and touch.
With my senses I learn so much!
With my hands, I can feel
Bananas with a slippery peel.
I see and hear, and smell, and taste, and touch.
With my senses I learn so much!

The Life of a Butterfly
Tune: Skip To My Lou

I'm a caterpillar, wiggle with me,
I'm a caterpillar, wiggle with me,
I'm a caterpillar, wiggle with me,
What'll I be, my darlin'?

A chrysalis, now sleep like me,
A chrysalis, now sleep like me,
A chrysalis, now sleep like me,
What'll I be, my darlin'?

A butterfly, come fly with me,
A butterfly, come fly with me,
A butterfly, come fly with me,
What'll I be, my darlin'?

Now all together, let's do all 3 three.
   A caterpillar, a chrysalis,
 A butterfly - three.
Move your body like this with me.
The life of a butterfly, darlin'.

A nickel's worth five.
A dime's worth ten cents.
A quarter's twenty-five.

Chorus

Lincoln's on one cent.
Jefferson's on five.
Roosevelt's on ten cents.
Washington's on twenty-five.

Chorus

A building's on one cent.
A building's on five.
A torch is on ten cents.
An eagle's on twenty-five.

Chorus

The Money Rap

Well, I know a song
It's really kind of funny
It's all about coins
And learning to count money.

Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters
Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters

Now a penny means one (hold out 1 finger)
And a nickel means five (hold out 5 fingers)
Dimes are worth ten (hold out 10 fingers)
And quarters twenty five (flash... 10 twice & then 5)

Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters
Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters

Five pennies in a nickel
(hold out 1 hand- fingers stretched)
Two nickels in a dime
(hold out 2 fingers)
Five nickels in a quarter
(hold out 1 hand - fingers stretched)
You'll know it every time!
(using both hands do a downward motion)

Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters
Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters
Yeah!!!
