 What is studied in English 10?
Students will read fiction and non-fiction, including several plays.  
Students must also master the state's curriculum standards in order to pass 
the Gateway exam at the end of the semester.

 What is the Gateway Exam?
The English 10 Gateway Exam is a state-mandated test.  Students in English 
10 
must take this test.  Passing the Gateway is essential.  It demonstrates 
mastery of the curriculum standards, and it must be passed in order to 
graduate.  Gateway exams are given in English 10, Biology, and Algebra I.

Students will read mostly British Literature, beginning with the earliest 
text, Beowulf.  
We will cover all of the state's curriculum standards for English 12.
