Reading Response Questions 2nd Semester

Write a good paragraph with at least 5 sentences to answer each question.

1. What is your favorite part of the book? Why is it your favorite part? GIVE DETAILS!

2. What does this book or story remind you of in your own life? Why?

3. Describe the setting at the beginning of the book. (When and where the story takes place) Now, describe how the setting changes in the story. Why is this setting important to this story? Give several details from the book that the author uses to show setting.

4. Write about the character that you like the best. Tell at least 3 reasons why you like this character. Remember to tell the character's name. Use details about what the character does and says in the story.

5. Write about the character that you like the least. Tell at least 3 reasons why you do not like this character. Remember to tell the character's name. Use details about what the character does and says in the story.

6. Write a paragraph describing the main character. Describe how the character looks, what the character does and says in the story, and how the character feels.

7. which character would you like (or not like) to have for a friend? Why? Would he or she get along with your other friends? Why or why not?

8. which character in this story would you like to be? Tell why you'd like to be this character. Would you do anything differently to change the story?

9. Choose two characters from your book. Draw a Venn diagram and compare the characters, writing at least 3 things in each part of the diagram. Then, write a paragraph describing how they are alike and how they are different.

10. On a sequence chart, show 4 important events that have happened in the story. NOW, write a paragraph telling why these events are important to the story.

11. What is the biggest challenge or problem for the main character in the story? How do you think it might be solved? If you have finished the book, how was the challenge or problem solved?

12. Tell your opinion about the book and the way it was written. Tell things you liked about the author's writing. Also tell things you would change if YOU were the author.

13. make a prediction about what you think will happen next in the story. Give reasons for your prediction. I think that ____________ will probably happen next in the story. I think this because ________________.

14. Write at least 3 sentences about something that happened in the book. NOW, write at least 3 sentences about what caused this to happen. You may use a cause and effect chart to show this information.

15. Write a good summary of the part you just read. Remember, a summary talks about the beginning, the middle and the end.

16. List 5 important facts that you learned from your reading. List at least 2 questions that you still have about the subject.

17. Who is telling the story? Is it one of the characters or a narrator? Why do you thing the author chose to tell the story this way?

18. What was the author's purpose for writing this selection?
