Coming Soon- Battle of the Books
The Battle of the Books began in the early 1930s as a radio program
sponsored by the Chicago public schools and the Carson Pirie Scott
department store. In the 1970s, Joanne Kelly, a former participant and
school librarian transformed the program into a reading incentive program
and schools have been adapting it for their needs ever since.
Bales and Windsong Intermediate Schools with support from the Friendswood
Public Library present Battle of the Books for all 4th-6th interested in
reading great books and winning awesome prizes!
A list of 40 top quality, age-appropriate books has been selected. Students
who are interested in participating will read a selection of books from the
attached list and take a written quit to qualify for Grade Level Teams. It
is not necessary to read all of the books on the list to qualify for a team.
Teams will compete against each other to become the Grade Level Champs in
their school and will represent their school in a final battle Bales and
Windsong Intermediate
The Battle List is now available at the Windsong Library's website and at
the Friendswood Library. The list will be in the Bale's Library this August.
