Students will choose their own subject. Students are allowed
to have one 3x5 note card with bullet points only. No complete sentences
allowed on note card. Remember this is a speech. Grading is based on your you
verbal skills. This should be “Tell”, not “Show and Tell”.
90-100= Well Prepared.
Thoughts are well organized. It is obvious the student has rehearsed outside of
class. Student makes eye contact with all members of the audience, at least 85%
of the time. Few verbalized pauses (less than 4) and very little fidgeting.
Speech is within time (1 min ½ to 2 minutes).
80-89= Overall well
prepared but had small problems with: verbal pauses (4-6), some fidgeting,
minimal eye contact with audience. Thoughts are organized, but there are
moments that do not flow. Speech is within time limits, or very close.
70-79= It is obvious
that there was little outside of class preparation. There are many verbal
pauses and fidgeting during the performance. Thoughts are becoming unorganized
and speech does not flow well. Little or no eye contact is made with the
audience. Speech is NOT within the time limit.
69 and lower= The
speech does not have any of the characteristics listed in “90-100%”. There is little to no evidence of
outside class preparation. There are many verbal pauses and fidgeting during
the performance. Speech is NOT within time limit.
