Healthy Lifestyles

Blackland Prairie Elementary offers an after school program called Paws for a Cause, which is designed just for girls in grades 3-5, or ages 8 -12.   After implementing something similar last year, we developed our own program this Fall.

The program offers fun activities to empower our girls to make healthy decisions.   We currently have almost 40 girls participating!

Each week the girls start with a game or project that is centered around their lesson for the week.  Teamwork, Feelings, Healthy Friendships, Self Esteem and Healthy Eating are just a few of the topics covered over this 10 week program.

The girls use their remaining time to run laps around the school track and earn rewards to show their progress.  The rewards have all been graciously donated.  Parents and staff volunteer each week to encourage the girls.

The girls are currently getting ready to run, jog or walk their 5k.  For some this will be their first 5k.  Some have returned from last year to run again!   All of the girls have made the healthy choice and feel empowered to do this 5k.  Please join us at the 5k as a participant or as a cheerleader.  Proceeds from the race benefit the American Cancer Society.
