Mrs. Hutcheson
I am in my 17th year teaching Biology at Bowie High School. I am married to Peter (a philosophy prof at Texas State) and we have 4 children. All three of my girls graduated from Bowie (Alyssa--class of '09, Jessica--Class of '07, and Vanessa--Class of '05) and my son Wesley (class of 2014) currently attends and plays tuba in the band.
My classes will be embracing the district goal of encouraging reading along with personal responsibility and time management. For the fall semester, we will encourage reading two ways: reading text to explore content and prepare for class and reading scientific literature (ie journal articles) to learn specialized knowledge and vocabulary for an individual student's science fair project.
Block scheduling means that completing homework will be more important than ever. Completing homework on time means students will be prepared for class and ready to learn. Completing homework by merely answering questions and not doing the assigned reading in a thoughtful way will mean a student has only a surface level familiarity with only some of the material. Parents, encourage your student to read fully and carefully.
