NewsFlash

Dear Parents!

The year is almost over. I can't believe it. It felt like it just started. I have been so
busy doing the assignments that I assign your child plus the preparing of lessons and grading,
etc. It has kept me out of trouble! I hope your child has learned a lot this year in
Algebra/Geometry. It has been my honor to teach your child. I love each and every one of my
students. I hope they know that.

The newsflash is this:

This Friday, April 18, is the absolute deadline for Pirate students to bring their $1.00 and
their permission slip signed by you for our field trip. The field trip is on April 24, Thursday.
We are going to Quintana Beach. We will be seining, dissecting squid and shark, shelling (for
Biology 6 weeks project), making sandcastles using math concepts as a competition, and trash
pickup - to keep our beaches clean. If the do not hand in the form signed by you and their
money on Friday, April 18, they cannot go. The form has more information on it. I will attach
it to my handouts on this sight. For the sandcastle competition: they will work in groups.
They may bring items no bigger than 11 inches by 11 inches. No glass is allowed on the beach.
The form also discusses what they should wear and other details.

It should be a fun learning experience.

Also, the Math TAKS test is May 1, this year. We are busy concentrating on relearning and
filling in the gaps of learning. PLEASE have your child study their TAKS booklet. It is a
booklet that is theirs to keep. I have listed the TAKS objectives that we are studying each day
on the calendar for next week. Some students are not making perfect scores on their quizzes and
tests over the material we are going over. PLEASE have them study those ojectives the night
before my class. Maybe that will help. They will not have book homework next week. Only
studying and doing things for TAKS. They are receiving grades each day for a 4 question quiz
and/or test. Their grade needs the extra help when they miss one. That means it is a 75!
Please help them study! All this hard work will hopefully pay off on May 1. I want your child
to do the best that he/she can do. Many of my students should make a perfect score. I want to
see them do it!
