I have taught in three school districts: Little Cypress Mauriceville CISD
in Orange, Texas; Kalamazoo Public Schools in Kalamazoo, Michigan; and this
is my second year at Brazoswood 9th Grade Center.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I attended the University of
Houston, San Jacinto College in Pasadena, North Harris County College, Frank
Phillips College, Houston Community College, and Lamar College in Orange. I
have a Bachelor of Business degree in Marketing, a Michigan teaching
certificate for Math grades 8-12, and a Texas teaching certificate for Math
grades 4-12.
I am very enthusiastic about teaching 9th graders and love to involve math
formulas and vocabulary with songs and games. I decided to become a math
teacher after my youngest child was in the 8th grade. Prior to that time, I
taught piano lessons for 18 years and substitute taught for 7 years while
raising my children.
I am happily married to the most wonderful man in the world. He is my best
friend and confidant. We have been married for over 27 years! We love to
ballroom dance, watch others dance, and watch youth and little ones grow to
become successful in life. We love serving in positions in our Church. I
presently work with children ages 3-12 and I often use my musical abilities
when they are needed.
I have four children and two grandchildren. My two oldest children have
graduated from college. The other two children are working on it. My three
oldest children are married to wonderful spouses. My youngest child is
serving a two year Church mission in Manaus, Brazil, speaking Portugese.
Manaus is at the head waters of the Amazon River.
I love teaching math. My children had both good and bad math teachers.
I realize that a good math teacher is very important for a student to feel
successful.
I am available before and after school for tutoring. I let my students know
when I am not available, which is rare. There is no reason for a student to
feel they cannot do the work. I am here to help them. They just need to
come see me and ask for help. I am also available on-line, if it is not too
late and I am still at school: sdukes@brazosportisd.net
Students and parents may call after school. I stay to prepare for the next
day after organizing the current day's results. My school phone number is
730-7300 ext. 11494.
The mission for my classes is to be sucessful in math, actually "LOVE" math,
and know it well enough to apply it in every day life situations. If these
three items happen, my students will discover they can become ANYTHING they
want to become!
