MISSION
Our mission as a RRISD department is to provide support for student
learners. We do this by being committed to continuous improvement, working
collaboratively, and creatively solving problems so that students
experience academic and personal success in Round Rock Independent School
District.
RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION
The framework for our Academic Intervention program is the Response to
Intervention (RtI) model. RtI is a comprehensive prevention strategy that
identifies struggling students and provides them with academic support. RtI
systems provide universal screening and high quality instruction for all
students, with research-based interventions targeted at struggling students.
In RtI the levels of intervention are conventionally referred to as "tiers."
RtI generally has three tiers.
Tier 1 instruction is typically defined as instruction provided to all
students in a general classroom.
Tier 2 interventions are provided only to students who demonstrate
problems based on data from screenings or classroom progress.
Tier 3 instruction is provided to students who do not make progress in
Tier 2 and need more intensive assistance.
Our program provides Tier 2 interventions. The BCE Student Support Team (see
FAQ) identifies students whose screening score data indicate difficulties in
reading or math and prescribes an appropriate research-based intervention
program.
Tier 2 interventions are provided in a small group outside of the regular
classroom with a qualified reading/math specialist. These small groups
usually meet four days a week for about 30 minutes. Student progress is
closely monitored to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. When
the student has made sufficient progress, and no longer needs the extra
assistance, they are returned to Tier 1.
