Dear Parents, Students, and Community,
Welcome to the 2009-20010 school year with the best Fine Arts Department in
the school district!
The C.D.Fulkes Middle School Art program will help students to develop a fine
art knowledge base on which to build lifelong learning; develop students’
artistic appreciation, including its multicultural dimension; and provide
educational opportunities for students to make choices which are relevant to
their lives. We work cooperatively with classroom teachers to enhance
concepts taught in the other content areas. This interaction is accomplished
while students further develop their knowledge of the elements of art and
principles of design.
Our goals are:
•Identify and experiment with a variety of materials, techniques, and
processes, such as: drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, sculpture,
textiles, printmaking, animation, alternate art such as graffiti and street
art
•Learning how to communicate your ideas
•Analyze and evaluate art
•Know and use appropriate art vocabulary inside and outside of the art room!
•Practice and demonstrate the skills of craftsmanship and technique
•Use materials and tools in a safe and responsible manner
•Encourage students’ critical thinking skills, and foster classroom dialogue
•Using technology
•Study of art history
•Investigate art from other cultures
We are able to explore a wide variety of art techniques and mediums during
the school year. C.D. Fulkes Middle School furnishes all the tools, equipment
and materials needed in each art course. These supplies are purchased
through a materials fee of $30.00 per year or $15.00 per semester. Because we
are able to buy in such large quantities through art suppliers, a materials
charge is more economical than trying to buy the correct supplies
individually. In addition to your own child’s fee, if you are interested in
sponsoring a student who is unable to pay the fee, please add your donation
amount to your payment.

Our fundraiser this year will be a CDF spirit t-shirt design contest! The
winning design will be made into t-shirts and hoodies, for sale during
September.
