Math SuperStars is a new, optional, extracurricular math program at CRE this year. This program, designed to enhance your child's math experience, began in late September for 1st-5th grades. (The Kindergarten program will begin in January.) The Math SuperStars program offers small prizes for working on these extra math problems at home.
Each Tuesday, a new worksheet will be posted here. There will be a new worksheet for each grade level posted each week. The program is COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY, so if your child chooses to participate, the grade-level appropriate worksheet should be printed out at home and completed. Upon completion, your child will return the worksheet for grading by the following Tuesday. Each question on the worksheet is worth points, or "stars." As your child accumulates "stars," incentives will be awarded.
Your role is to encourage your child and facilitate problem solving. You may need to read the problem to your child, explaining any new words encountered. Feel free to suggest a strategy for solving the problem, but please DO NOT GIVE THE ANSWERS. In order for this program to be effective, the thinking must be done by the students. It is normal for your child NOT to be able to complete every problem on a worksheet. The process of reading, understanding, and approaching the problems is a valuable step in solving many types of problems. Remind your child that he or she is not expected to know the answers to every problem.
Thank you for allowing your child the opportunity to participate in this exciting and new math adventure!
