Weekly Update 4th Grade - Nov. 16th -24th
** This newsletter will take us through Thanksgiving!
Reading:
The kids have finally completed their research projects in their homerooms. Now we can complete our Featured Articles. We were able to work on them today and many of the kids asked me to send theirs home for them to work on over the weekend. If they requested me to send theirs I have already sent them. You might ask your child if they asked for theirs and check your email. I appreciate them wanting to finish them up. They have done such a good job and I can’t wait to get them printed and have them share!!! We should be able to move on by Wednesday. We will be cover some reading skills before Thanksgiving break. We will spend several days talking about analogies. Then we will move on to story plots. We will be diagramming short stories mapping out: Exposition/Beginning, Conflict/external and internal, rising action, climax, and resolution.
Math:
This week we will continue with mean, median, mode, and range. The kids now know the definition of the words and can find each using a set of data. I have asked them to find two graphs to bring in by Wednesday. We will be using these graphs for a short activity. They will be finding the mean, median, mode, and range of the data presented on the graphs. Then they will write a paragraph explaining the information. I stressed to them the importance of finding graphs that they understand. That will make the assignment much easier and more meaningful for them. We will also continue working on the problem solving strategy working backwards.
