Field trip info:
Field trip to Inner Space Caverns coming soon...March 27th!!!
Handwriting- cursive letters:
Cactus Ranch teaches handwriting using the Handwriting Without Tears
program.
Developmental Teaching Order:
It is planned to help children learn cursive skills in the easiest, most
efficient way. It is also developmentally planned to start with letters
that are familiar from printing. Children learn their lowercase letters
first. Teaching order is based on the following:
1. Familiarity of the letter
2. Mastery of the c stroke- c is a very important connection in cursive
3. Difficulty of connections ( o, w, b, v are very difficult)
4. Formation patterns
So far we have learned the following-I use the following words to help them
form their letters:
c: "Magic c, bump the line, travel on the line, clide up and over, come
back, make a new c"
a: "Magic c, bump the line, up like a helicopter, bump!, back down, bump,
travel away"
d: "Magic c, up like a helicopter, up higher, slide down, bump, travel away"
g: "Magic c, up like a helicopter, bump, back down, turn, aim for corner,
travel away"
h: "travel up like a helicopter, slide down, bump!, climb back up and over,
and down, bump, travel away"
t: "travel up like a helicopter, slide down, bump, travel away, cross"
p: "travel up, bump, slide down, climb back up and over and around, bump
the pole, travel away"
e: "travel then up, bump, turn, down , stay on your side, bump, travel away"
**Please work on these letters at home. Students love to watch me make a
letter the wrong way and tell me how to correct it! Maybe this would be fun
at home... :)
