                    5TH GRADE CLASSWORK

NEW MATH CONCEPTS THE SECOND NINE WEEKS INCLUDE:

•	Algebraic relationships- using tables, symbols , rate of change,
perimeter, area, formulate equations from problem situations

•	Measurement – conversions (customary, metric), proportional,
area, perimeter, volume, circles (radius, diameter and circumference),
estimate, evaluate reasonableness of results, select and use
appropriate units, tools or formulas to measure and solve problems
involving length, area, time, temperature, volume and mass/weight

•	Understand data and graphing

•	Problem-solving processes are ongoing

THESE MATH CONCEPTS WILL CONTINUE TO BE REVISITED:

•	USE NUMBER SENSE BY COMPARING AND ORDERING NON-NEGATIVE RATIONAL
        NUMBERS

•	GENERATE EQUIVALENT FORMS OF RATIONAL NUMBERS INCLUDING WHOLE
        NUMBERS, FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS

•	DECIMAL OPERATIONS, ROUNDING AND ESTIMATION

•	USE PROBLEM-SOLVING PROCESSES AND STRATEGIES

•	COMMUNICATING MATHEMATICAL IDEAS USING MATH LANGUAGE, EFFICIENT TOOLS
         AND APPROPRIATE UNITS

•	MAKE SETS OF EXAMPLES

Individual work - Select from a menu, opportunities to use each new concept
                   in multiple ways
               - Review TEKS that will be addressed the 2nd 9 weeks.
