TAKS is over, but the school year isn't! Check out all the cool stuff going
on in Portable 9...
We are in the middle of our "Biggest Reader" contest to see which class will
be the first class to read 10,000 minutes from their reading logs. Leach's
homeroom won our first ever "Biggest Reader" contest by reaching over 10,400
minutes in only FOUR WEEKS!!! "Season" 2 is currently in progress and this
time we're trying to reach 12,000 minutes by the end of the year. The winner
will receive ONE WEEK OF NO HOMEWORK!
Please be mindful of their reading time and make sure weekly totals are
correct (and logs are filled out and turned in on Friday for credit)!!
During the month of May we will be doing what we call an "I-search" project
during writing time where we research a burning question of ours and then
present our findings to the class. It should be very informative and
interesting!!
REMINDERS:
If your child is absent or you pull them out early on a Friday, make sure to
remind them to get their homework and any assignments or tests when they
return or before they leave (they know this!). It can be very difficult to
keep up with who was here and not here with forty students...and on Fridays!
Also, remember from parent orientation that anything sent home (especially
in Tuesday folders) that is below a 70 may be made up for a higher grade.
They just need to make corrections and return it to Carter or me.
