What Tools Are in Our Writers' Toolbox?

Binoculars - making a blurry sentence clear by adding information
(describing)
Adding Details - add information, not just words, to make our writing
interesting
Snapshots- Adding a snapshot of what a character might look like in a story.
Thoughtshots - Adding a thoughtshot of what the character was thinking in
the story.
Extended Endings - 1. Memory of an event 2. The main character's
feelings 3. The main character's hopes/wishes 4. A decision/defining
action
Ba-Da-Bing Sentences - The writer describes a feeling by including a
sentence that says, " As I walked..., I saw..., and I thought..."
Stretch "Boring" Sentences- Instead of writing: The dog barked. Stretch
your sentence to add more detail: The German Shepherd barked loudly at the
mailman in the street because he thought she was a robber.

What Do We Use to Plan Our Writing?

Story Maps- help make our writing more focused. We have to make sure our
stories have a problem and a solution. Also, we need to make sure we can
GIST or tell the main idea of our story!
