About The Teacher
Hi, I’m Kate Smith, one of the art teachers at Caldwell Heights. I earned my BFA from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. I was also fortunate enough to spend a semester abroad in Rome through Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. I’ve lived in Austin since 1989 and earned my teaching certificate from Texas State in San Marcos. I enjoy spending my free time with my family which includes Richard, Lilly, who is starting her junior year at UT this year, Nell, a senior in high school, and our kitties Chris, Conner and Colette. I also enjoy reading, traveling, xeriscaping (except when it comes to bamboo), and looking for inspiration for exciting new projects for the students of Caldwell Heights!

Mission
It’s my fifth year here at Caldwell Heights and I’m so excited to continue learning and growing with your children because they are some of my best teachers! I have always loved art and art making and it’s great to be able to share that with your students. It’s important to me to try to introduce my students to as many different styles of art and the artists that created them as possible. We can learn so much from contemporary artists as well as the great masters. I strive to make my classroom a fun and educational experience where all students have the freedom to create and succeed!
