Writing:  Revisions: The students worked another day on show not tell. I think we are starting to get what this means. Some students are beginning to identify parts in books that show not tell during story time and  reading groups! AMAZING! We also worked on revising endings.  Next week: Revising while writing, partnering for revisions, learning revisions from authors, prepare to celebrate. (I hope to have our celebration museum on Friday!)

Reading:  The students  have been having trouble making transitions quickly from one part of our workshop to another. We took a day to review what transitioning from one place to another place looks and sounds like. We must be urgent with getting from place to place as we do not want to waste any of our precious time. Once we get to our assigned place, we need to be ready to continue on with our learning. (sitting the right way, having the correct materials) We continue to work on questioning. We have moved into nonfiction books to practice this skill. Each member of the class was given a book about penguins and used a post-it note to mark where they were using the strategy of questioning. We made sure our books continue to be just right books for us to read that we check out for independent reading time. Some books we have read this week: An Angel for Solomon, Gretchen the Groundhog, and  Science Fair Day.  I have been reading Poppy, written by Avi, to the class. Ask your child what happened to Ragweed. Who is Ocax?

Math:
Gotta love the 100th day of school! We counted 10 sets of 10 different food items. Then we ate our delicious snack! Gallery Pictures coming soon! We also predicted what we could do in 100 seconds! Ask your child what they did. We worked on a word problem called: Legs. Students had to come up with a way to determine how many people and table legs we have in our class. We reviewed sorting three dimensional shapes. We used magnifying glasses to examine coins and compared what they had in common.Next week we will continue learning about money. Activity to do with your child: Hold up different coins and ask your child to name the coin and it's value. Ask your child, if I had 5 pennies what coin could I trade that for? How many nickels are in a dime?

Social Studies:  We continued to learn about the symbols of Texas. We got into groups and created a poster to display the dinosaur, butterfly, bat, and lizard. Ask your child which group they were in and to tell you about what they learned. Each group will be presenting their posters on Monday.

We went to the Library and Ms. Hall read us one of the books that is up for vote for the Armadillo Award. It was a different versions of "The Three Little Pigs". Ask your child what the story was called and what happened.  We also had a storyteller come tells us some amazing stories. Ask your child about it. He was Fantastic!

Word search is up for new spelling words (Sorry I can't get the image "fall" off.)
