Dear Canyon Creek Families:
Congratulations to our 1st graders for an outstanding performance of "The
Box" on Tuesday, February 9th. I am very proud of their hard work in
preparation for this musical.
2010 is off to a great start! Our 4th and 5th graders have completed their
recorder units, and our 3rd graders are progressing nicely with their
recorder unit. The recorder is a wonderful tool for students to improve
their music reading abilities.
We are fortunate to have a student teacher, Mr. Jason Van Note from Texas
State University, for the first half of the spring semester. Mr. Van Note is
a graduate of Round Rock High School where he played bassoon and also
performed on the drumline. He helped me demonstrate the woodwind and brass
families, and he presented the percussion family of instruments for our
students.
Remember to make music part of each and every day!

A general statement, taken from TEA TEKS about what your child will be
learning in Music:
Four basic strands--perception, creative expression/performance, historical
and cultural heritage, and critical evaluation--provide broad, unifying
structures for organizing the knowledge and skills students are expected to
acquire. In music, students develop their intellect and refine their
emotions, understanding the cultural and creative nature of musical artistry
and making connections among music, the other arts, technology, and other
aspects of social life. Through creative performance, students apply the
expressive technical skills of music and critical-thinking skills to
evaluate multiple forms of problem solving. By reflecting on musical
periods and styles, students understand music's role in history and are able
to participate successfully in a diverse society. Students analyze and
evaluate music, developing criteria for making critical judgments and
informed choices.
