Please look in your child's take-home folder every Tuesday. If there is a
paper below a 70, please have your child correct the paper and make sure it
has a parent signature. Turn the paper into to me as soon as possible. I
will regrade the paper for a grade of 70. I will not remind the students to
turn in the corrected paper. They have a week to get their paper turned in
for a higher grade. If you have any questions, please call me at 428.2860

A maximum of 40 minutes.
What if my child has not finished their homework after 40 minutes?
Just initial at the stopping point to let me know that they worked up to 40
minutes.
What are the classroom rules?
Discipline is ongoing and positive. Students will receive tickets for
behaving exceptionally well. At the end of each month, we will have a
classroom auction.
When a student breaks a rule, he/she will receive a verbal warning. If the
student chooses not to correct the behavior, then the student will fill out
a Behavior Report on which he/she will explain which rule he/she disobeyed.
The student then signs the form and takes it home for the required parent
signature. It is to be returned the following day. Each Behavior Report
results in the loss of two points on the students behavior grade.
Consequences for not following the class rules may include losing recess
time, sitting alone, etc.
Our Classroom Rules

2. Respect everybody and everything.
3. Work independently unless otherwise specified.
4. Follow directions first time given.
Consequences
1. Warning.
2. Sign the discipline book.
3. Sign the discipline book, and give up a ticket.
4. Sign the discipline book, and lose half of recess time.
Rewards
1. Tickets.
2. Lunch with teacher and friends in the classroom (worth 5 tickets.)
3. Compliment from teacher to parent.
4. Sit with a friend for the day (worth 3 tickets.)
What is the classroom mission statement?
Our mission is to always strive to do our best, no matter what the task! We
want to be the best thinkers, readers and writers possible! We can
accomplish this by learning and working together.
How do I help my child find a book that is challenging for them?
When choosing a book for your child, turn to any page and have your child
try reading it. Then, put up a finger for each word he or she doesn't
know. If you only put up one or two fingers, the book is too easy. If you
quickly use five fingers, the book is too hard. The book is just right if
you use three or four fingers per page.
Is there anything extra that my child could be working on at home?
Keyboarding, I encourage the students to type as many final copies as
possible! Math facts (especially multiplication and division) is a skill
that many students would benefit from having extra practice at speed and
accuracy. Also, your son/daughter could always use free time to read!
What are the rules regarding birthday treats?
*****Very Important Information: Parents, if you wish you may help your
child celebrate his/her birthday in school by buying ice cream from the
cafeteria at lunch time. The state of Texas has imposed some very strict
guidelines to follow when food is brought in to share with other students.
Please be sure to carefully consult the Texas guidelines (I have extras in
the room) or the following website
http://www.squaremeals.org/vgn/tda/files/983/1992_Policy%20brochure%20layout%
20final%208.04.pdf. It would be a good idea to keep your flyer handy
throughout the school year. Snacks and treats that do not fall within the
acceptable category will be prohibited from being served, as mandated by the
state of Texas. Thank you in advance for following these new guidelines.
Do S.S., Science, and Reading assignments count as reading homework?
Yes. Students are asked to read a total of 100 minutes weekly and are
encouraged to include the above.
What if a student is absent due to illness?
For every day missed. students have an additional day to turn in
assignments. For example: If Monday is missed, the student will make up
essential work on Tuesday.
Should a parent pick up assignments when a student is absent due to illness?
Only if a student misses more than 1 day.
What if a student is away for several days on a family trip?
If possible notify the teacher ahead of time. Students are asked to keep a
daily journal that they will use to share with the class upon their return.
Essential work will be made up in increments once they return.
