ROOM 216
Discipline is ongoing and positive. Students are encouraged to strive for
excellence and support one another as we learn new things.
'Good work tickets' are rewarded for behaving well, doing kind deeds,
keeping their desks and personal items tidy, utilizing their daily planners,
returning Tuesday folders & school papers, receiving compliments from
other teachers, for perfect scores on daily lessons & A's on tests, among
other things. An accumulation of tickets can be traded in for prizes.
Our campus is trying to implement the Love and Logic approach for classroom
management. Class rules have been discussed and students know that if they
should do something which causes a problem for anyone (behaviors that are
non-conducive for students to learn, that keep them from focusing or
learning themselves, or that break RRISD conduct codes), I will do something
to stop the behavior. What consequence occurs will depend on each individual
case. Poor choices are marked in the "Behavior Book" and affect citizenship
grades on report cards.
Consequences for not following class rules may include losing privileges.
Privileges that a student might lose include, but are not restricted to,
recess time, working in groups, being seated near friends, etc.
TUESDAY FOLDERS
These Folders contain class work from the previous week, as well as
informational sheets from the office or PTA. Attached to the front of each
folder is a form requiring a parental signature. Students are rewarded for
their responsibility in returning a signed folder on Wednesday mornings. If
you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please jot me a note and
place it inside the folder or send me a quick e-mail. I will respond as
quickly as possible.
RE-DO's
Should any student struggle with a lesson and earn a grade below 70 (which
sometimes happens as we learn new materials and skills), the student is
expected to correct the assignment AT HOME OR DURING FREE TIME.
This provides the student with an opportunity to raise the grade and
helps ensure the student grasps the content before moving on. When the
assignment is turned back in, the 'corrected' grade will be averaged with
the original score. However, the maximum score for a 're-do' is a 70.
PLANNERS
Planners are provided & are expected to be utilized each day. On Friday,
students may show me a completed planner for a ticket. Students are
responsible for ensuring their individual lessons are recorded appropriately
each day. I provide class time and visual & auditory reminders for the
students to record assignments into their planners.
HOMEWORK
Homework consistently includes weekly spelling lessons, nightly reading for
the reading log, and writing for night writes or in the writer's notebook.
Beyond that, homework typically is comprised of unfinished classwork.
Students can avoid taking lessons home by focusing their time in class and
working diligently. In 4th grade, there are occasional research assignments
and other lessons but all is reasonable for upper level elementary students.
HOMEWORK FOLDERS
These should include extra notebook paper and other needed homework
materials.
SNACKS
Please send ONLY HEALTHY snacks for your child. I discourage chips
or 'dessert' type sugary snacks. Nutritional information regarding what
snacks are acceptable is listed on my 'Food Restrictions' page. Please
remember that our campus prohibits food items containing nuts of ANY kind
due to students with severe reactions to allergies. My son is allergic to
nuts and is in my classroom daily, so I especially appreciate your help in
not sending nut items to school.
TESTING DATES
***ALL TEST DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE...Testing will occur when the
material has been sufficiently covered and I feel my students are prepared.
