LIT CIRCLES (BOOK CLUB):
Your child will take part in "literature circles," which are student-led book discussion groups. We call it "Book Club" in class. Books are selected and the students meet in small groups with other students who are reading the same novel. Each member of the group takes turns guiding discussions of the book.
Literature circles allow students to share their thoughts, concerns, and understanding of a novel. Engaging in interactive discussion and exploration with peers allows for a greater in-depth understanding of literature. Instead of the teacher explaining or pointing out deeper meaning/symbols/ elements of author's craft, the children discover these themselves, thereby owning the experience and learning much more from it.
