Looking for ideas to keep your children learning this summer? Try these fourth grade favorites!
Fractions: If your family is ordering pizza, what fraction of the pizza could each person eat?
Fractions: Does everyone like something different on their pizza? If you could only order one pizza with 12 slices, what fraction of the pizza would be cheese only? Mushrooms? Hamburger?
Fractions: Does mom or dad need help organizing the cans? Take them out and figure out what fraction of the cans are vegetables, fruits, meat etc. Then put them back neatly! Remember, the denominator would be the total number of cans.
Fractions: Got Legos? What fraction of the Legos are red? blue? green? Remember, you denominator is the: Total number of equal parts in one whole. So the denominator would be the total number of your Legos.
Longitude and Latitude: If you have a map, globe, or atlas at home, look up the latitude and longitude of places you have traveled.
Math Rounding: Do you have an old HEB grocery reciept? Round each item to the nearest whole dollar, then add them up. Look at your estimated cost compared to the actual cost. Is it similar? Is your answer reasonable?
Sci: List the physical and chemical changes you see occuring in your world.
Density: Compare and contrast objects in your home and list which one you feel has more density than the other. Come in and share with us and we will discuss your findings! Drop marbles in different solutions. Which solution is more dense? Why do you think that?
Writing: Write a webbed paragraph about your favorite food, favorite sport, someone you care about. Remember, give the topic sentence, then write 4 more sentences telling more about that topic!
Writing: Pretend you are a piece of pizza or candy about to be eaten! What are your thoughts are feelings? Write those in a webbed paragraph!
Soil: Do you have relatives who live in other parts of Texas? See if they would be so kind as to send you a baggie of soil. Compare it to the soil in your yard. Observe the texture difference. Does one hold water better than the other? Plant the same kind of seed in both soils. Which one grows better?
Native Americans: Research NAs of today. How do they remember their past?
Native Americans: Many other tribes migrated into Texas as the Europeans began to settle the land we call the U.S. Research a tribe that came later into Texas.
