OUR SUPERSTAR: Alex- it will be great to learn about our superstar this week!
WOW! What a great last week before our holiday break. The Caterpillars worked hard to complete all the special projects and gifts for our families. We enjoyed an interesting lesson on Eid from Fatimah's mom, wrote to Santa's elves to give them suggestions on how to help Santa out of the chimney, and continued to learn about American holiday traditions. Of course our field trip to Zachary Scott to see the Holiday Heroes was entertaining, funny and exciting. The children looked so fancy in their nice clothes! Alex even got to go on stage for a bit of the show and Mrs. Biggers danced a little dance with the actors. It was a fantastic event! Mrs. Long the Assistant Principal during Mrs. Baker's maternity leave came in to read us a beautiful version of Twas the Night Before Christmas. The students enjoyed meeting her. On Friday we enjoyed the school-wide sing-a-long. Of course the best part of the Caterpillars' week was our holiday party. Thanks so much to Mrs. Mock for all of her work getting it together. Thank you also to all the parents who came in. I think at one point there may have been more adults than children in our classroom - a good time was had by all!
When we return in January, we will start off with discussing the new year, reviewing classroom procedures and an introduction to our Winter unit - weather, winter animals, ice and snow. We will also use the book The Mitten in language arts and math activites. Usually the transition back to school in January goes smoothly, they are happy to be back with friends and they are comfortable with our routinds. I'm looking forward to it.
ASSESSMENT TIME: During the month of January, I will be needing to do some language arts assessments with the children. I will be posting a sign up sheet for parents to come in and cover the class for me so that I can work with the children in the hall.
REPORT CARDS: Reports cards will be sent home with your child in the Tuesday folder on January 12. Please make sure you sign the envelope and return it just like the last time.
MITTENS: We will be using mittens in various math activities when we return to school. Please send a pair in with your child so that we can use them for math.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED: I recommend that you send your child back to school with the following new supplies (marked with his/her name):
Fat Crayola Classic Markers 8 Count
Skinny Crayola Classic Markers 8 Count
24 pk of Crayola crayons
Elmers glue bottle
We are also running low on Purell. If you can send some in, that would be great. But we don't need 20 bottles right now. Thanks!
