News for the week of February 15th:
Last week began with the prediction of "Will the groundhog see his shadow?" We graphed our predictions and made our own groundhog on a stick. Six more weeks of winter! The 100th day of school definitely was the highlight of our week. What a fun and educational day it was! We paraded the halls with all comets cheering us on, looked around the room for 100 pennies, put them in order, made a picture with 100 beans, ate a bagel in the shape of a 100,wore our 100's hats, glasses and numbered elephants, completed our 100's stations, and made a 100 snack. The rest of the week we participated in even more 100 activities. The student's really enjoyed themselves all week long. The week ended with our 10 for 10 activity. Each child had 10 dimes to go buy items from each kindergarten classroom. I'm sure that they have already showed you all of the neat items they purchased. Thanks for making last week a HUGE success! It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our kinder families.
This week we will do lot's of fun Valentine/friendship activities. There will be lots of math involved! Our Valentine bags our now out in the hallway and we will be placing valentine cards in the bags throughout the week. Please don't forget to have your child write on their own for each student in the class. Valentines for teachers are optional. Friday will be out Valentine Day party. Any and all parents are invited to come. Please note that siblings are not allowed in the classroom. There will be optional daycare provided on campus. Please contact MaryAnne Hettenhaus before 2/10 to make a reservation if you are interested. Her email is maryanne_hettenhaus@roundrockisd.org. The party begins at 1:30. If you are interested in volunteering for the party, please contact either Mrs. Cowman.
SUPERSTAR: Blake! We look forward to learning more about you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Parker 2/10, and Michelle 2/12
ALL VOLUNTEERS: It is state mandated that any person who works with students go through a background check. This would include any reading to the class, coming in for parties, volunteering in the classroom or computer lab, etc. The front office has been bombarded with parents wanting to volunteer who have not been properly screened. If you have not completed the background check please do so. It is a very simple process. You can go into our library and Mrs. West or Mrs. Whisnand can help get you started on the computers. Thank you.
MONTHLY CHARACTER TRAIT: Hi there Comets! Congratulations to all students who received a "Trustworthy" sticker during the month of January! February is known as the month of love, so why not spread love and kindness to your friends?? During the month of January, our character trait is FRIENDSHIP. This month, teachers will be looking for good examples of friendship. If you help a friend in need or if your teacher catches you treating your friends in class with respect, kindness, and empathy then you will receive a "friendship" sticker to wear all day telling everyone that you exhibited our character trait of the month! Good Luck Comets and remember....CHARACTER COUNTS AT CANYON CREEK!!

BOOK ORDERS: Due Friday, February 12th!
EARLY RELEASE: Wednesday 2/10 at 12:45.
VALENTINES FOR CLASSMATES: We will begin to pass out our class Valentines early in the week of February 8th. Please send them in by Wednesday, February 10th. If they are ready before, send them in! There is still plenty of time to have your child address and sign them all. If you misplaced the class list, please let me know.
LIBRARY READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM: In last week's Tuesday folder you received information (green paper) regarding the library's reading incentive program - GET WILD ABOUT READING. Every student who completes six hour of recreational reading between Tuesday, January 26, and Tuesday, February 23, will receive one free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park (tickets will be distributed with the final report card). The list is on the handout and the student reading log. Please read the hand out and get your child involved! If you have any questions, please direct them to Mrs. Whisnand in our library. Happy reading!
FAMILY FUN FEST TEACHER TREAT: The kindergarten teachers are offering a Kindergarten Kitchen Party to be raffled off at the family fun fest. Families may buy tickets (look for more information as the date approaches) and one winner from each class will be drawn to determine who goes to the Kitchen Party. The teachers will lead the winners and one friend in simple cooking projects on Monday, March 29th, 2:45 - 4:00. If you think your child would be interested, you will have a chance to buy tickets from the PTA closer to March 6. The PTA will notify the winner from each class. Thanks for supporting our PTA!
