Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is an Early Release Day. What a great time to catch up on Night Writes! 3 are due on 3/1! (FYI - this is the last month of Night Writes...woo hoo!)

Students are asked to bring in decorated shoeboxes as soon as possible as their Valentine collection box.  Boxes need a hole cut into the top, or a removable lid and the student's name written boldly on top. Thanks to those who have already brought in their decorated box! Valentines for classmates may come in on, Friday!  A list of student names was sent in last week's Tuesday folder. We are looking forward to a "lovely" party! Thank you to Lavonna G & Liz G for all of your hard work on our special events!

This month, teachers will be looking for good examples of friendship. If you help a friend in need or if your teacher catches you treating your friends in class with respect, kindness, and empathy then you will receive a "friendship" sticker to wear all day telling everyone that you exhibited our character trait of the month! Good Luck Comets and remember....CHARACTER COUNTS AT CANYON CREEK!!

Thank you for taking time to review your student's work in his or her Tuesday folder! They love sharing their hard work with you as well as keeping you in the know of all that is happening here at CCE!

Thank you, thank you to Lavonna Gonzalez, Melody Vought, Cindy Lassandro, Liz Green, Ji Chen and Kathy Sternad for signing up to be an editor for Cruise Write Along! It is not too late to join this wonderful group! Please consider being a Cruise Write Along EDITOR during the week of Feb. 16-19!  Come for an hour or so once, twice or daily.  If you need help on what to do, or what will be required of you as an editor, please email. I have an editing guide that I would be happy to share with you!

A volunteer editor schedule is now posted in the upstairs Fourth Grade hallway.  I'd love to have you all come and be a part of it with us!  It is an important part of helping the children prepare for the writing TAKS and the kids LOVE seeing you in the halls! Please email or call with any questions or comments.

Each child is asked to bring in a beach towel next week as we set sail on our Cruise! Please label it with your child's name or initals. This is just another fun way to spread out around the room and provide motivation to write write write!

Homework Update: Your child has a nightly "TAKS Packet" that is coming home in a large manilla folder. Their nightly job is to read one story and answer the six editing questions that follow. I have encouraged them to complete this on their own, but have you check as they are finished. The due date of each story is listed on the front cover.

Yellow Reading homework is coming home each Thursday. This is usually two - three short stories followed by six to eight questions. This will be due each Monday. Again - students are to prove their answers and you are welcome to check over the finished work to give assistance or correct and discuss any incorrect answers. (There will NOT be a yellow Reading Kamico due on 2/16 due to our Cruise)

Six Flags 6-Hour Reading Club
The Six Flags Reading Log will replace our class reading log until February 23, 2010.  This is MANDATORY. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading between Tuesday, Jan. 26th and Tuesday, Feb. 23rd will receive a free admission ticket to Six Flags Fiesta Texas!  Please encourage your child to record their reading and sign the green reading log located in their homework folder.  Hopefully our class will have 100% participation
