Weekly Newsletter

News for the week of February 15th:

Last week began with the prediction of "Will the groundhog see his shadow?" We graphed our predictions and made our own groundhog on a stick. Six more weeks of winter! The 100th day of school definately was the highlight of our week. What a fun and educational day it was! We paraded the halls with all comets cheering us on, looked around the room for 100 pennies, put them in order, made a picture with 100 beans, ate a bagel in the shape of a 100, wore our 100's hats, glasses and numbered elephants, completed our 100's stations, made a 100 snack and made our fruit
loop necklace. The student's really enjoyed themselves and one even said "This is the best day ever!" Our week ended with our 10 for 10 activity. Each child had 10 dimes to go buy items from each kindergarten classroom. I'm sure that they have already showed you all of the neat items they purchased. Thanks for making last week a HUGE success!

This week we will do lot's of fun Valentine/friendship activities. There will be lot's of math involved! Our Valentine bags our now out in the hallway and we will be placing valentine cards in the bags throughout the  week. Please don't forget to have your child write on their own for each student in the class. The teachers are
optional. Friday will be out Valentine Day party. Any and all parent's are invited to come. Please note that siblings are not allowed in the classroom. There will be optional daycare provided on campus. Please contact  MaryAnne Hettenhaus before 2/10 to make a reservation if you are interested. Her email is
maryanne_hettenhaus@roundrockisd.org. The party begins at 1:30.

* If you are interested in volunteering for the party, please contact either Eva or Amrita. Thank you.

BEHAVIOR: I have been having a few behavior issues in the classroom and I wanted to address them in hopes that you can discuss this with your child. First of all, I am seeing more and more disrespect (talking while I'm talking, arguing with me) and I really need your support. My expectations have been made clear since the first day of school about respect and listening to the teacher and I understand that kindergarteners need to be reminded often. I hope that a discussion at home will reinforce student expectations.
Secondly, for some reason we are now having issues with innappropriate touching (boys only to my knowledge). It seems very innocent, but I am having Mrs. McCall (our counselor) come in to discuss this topic with my boys. Hopefully these issues we are having will cease now that our Butterflies are 80 days away from being 1st graders!

SUPERSTAR: Alana. We look forward to learning more about you.

ALL VOLUNTEERS: It is state mandated that any person who works with students go through a background check.  This would include any person coming in for parties, volunteering in the classroom, etc. If you have not completed the background check please do so. It is a very simple process. You can go into our library and Mrs. West or Mrs. Whisnand can help get you started on the computers. Thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS TO: Weiran for modeling friendship to her classmates. This is our character trait for the month. She received a friendship character trait sticker. Way to go.

BOOK ORDERS: In last weeks newsletter I noted that you would receive a book order in last Tuesdays folder. I apologize for not getting it out. The book order will be in this Tuesday's folder. Thank you.

EARLY RELEASE: Wednesday 2/10 at 12:45.

VALENTINES FOR CLASSMATES:  We will begin to pass out our class Valentines early in the week of February 8th.  Please send them in by Wednesday, February 10th.  If they are ready before, send them in! There is still plenty of time to have your child address and sign them all.  If you lost the class list, please let me know.

LIBRARY READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM:  In last week's Tuesday folder you received information (green paper) regarding the library's reading incentive program - GET WILD ABOUT READING.  Every student who completes six hour of
recreational reading between Tuesday, January 26, and Tuesday, February 23, will receive one free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park. The list is on the handout and the student reading log.  Please read the hand out and get your child involved! If you have any questions, please direct them to Mrs. Whisnand in our library.  Happy reading!

FAMILY FUN FEST TEACHER TREAT - The kindergarten teachers are offering a Kindergarten Kitchen Party to be raffled off at the family fun fest. Families may buy tickets (look for more information as the date approaches) and one winner from each class will be drawn to determine who goes to the Kitchen Party.  The teachers will lead the winners and one friend in simple cooking projects on Monday, March 29th, 2:45 - 4:00.  If you think your child would be interested, you will have a chance to buy tickets from the PTA closer to March 6.  The PTA will notify the winner from each class.  Thanks for supporting our PTA!********************************************************************************************************************
