 Dear Parents,

We are off to a great start!! I am really enjoying the creative process with
your children.

As always, I would love your children to tell you about the project and the
process they are learning about in the art studio!

Please go to Studio News to see what projects we are working on in class.

TEKS in art! Just as the regular classroom teacher must follow and teach the
TEKS, art teachers also have TEKS! We must also follow a district plan
called a Conceptual Lens. These are basically the elements and principles of
art that are covered at certain grade levels and at given times. This makes
sure that if a student moves from one Round Rock school to another, they
will have covered that skill. So please be aware that I can't just do a
project because it looks like fun, it must fit the prescribed schedule.
1st 9 Weeks:
For New Parents Only....
Here are some informational items that you might like to know about that
have been mentioned in previous newsletters.
.Students are not allowed to touch any artwork. Those few who choose to
touch or damage artwork will find themselves scrubbing a few art tables.
This policy ensures that your students artwork will not be damaged during
the school year or while on display.
.Quality vs. Quantity: All lessons are introduced with a focus on learning
the principles and elements of design, connections to other cultures and art
history when applicable and addressing the art TEKS. All projects are fully
demonstrated and practice time is allowed before we attempt a final copy.
Please expect six to eight pieces of art in your child's portfolios, but
what an awesome eight they will be!!! All artwork remains on campus until
the end of the school year.
GRADES....GRADES....GRADES.....GRADES.....GRADES....GRADES....GRADES!!!
.Grading art is very subjective. During a nine-week grading period I
evaluate over 1,400 pieces of artwork. To receive an E, student work should
exemplify the highest level of accomplishment. An "E" student demonstrates a
high degree of consistency and creativity in their art.

KINDERGARTEN, FIRST AND SECOND GRADE PARENTS PLEASE READ:

Most art students in Kindergarten through second grade will receive a grade
of 2 for the first and second grading periods which means they
are meeting all expectations. If you have any concerns please contact
me. If you do not hear from me then please rest assured that your child is
progressing as he/she should be.

Please feel free to email me or call me at 428-2828 if you have any
questions.
