Current World Issues

Course Description:  Current World Issues completes the conceptual frame of reference students need in order to understand the increasingly interconnected global community in which we live.  The course is rich in student research, simulation, and presentation.  Students will investigate global issues in a variety of ways and will experience the frustrations and rewards of trying to solve problems in the world.  Students will understand that there are a variety of ways to view the different issues that affect the world.  They must appreciate the difficulties in trying to come to some kind of consensus on any world issue.  Students will learn how they would go about translating their ideas and recommendations into action and to tie the global issues of the world together.

Each nine weeks the students must do a current event presentation, broadcast news presentation, and journal writing.

Special Note:  The classroom environment will be one that is accepting of diverse opinions and one that encourages student risk taking; encourages student to student leadership opportunities; instruction is more thematic in design, with open ended questioning techniques; and students will have flexible choices in order to allow for individual interests and creativity.
