At the official time, please send one person into my room - quietly - to gather the materials needed.  Be sure to count the money at the end of each lunch session, so we know what our profit was for each period of each day.

Check out the National Wildlife Federation animal adoption page and start thinking about which animals we can adopt with our money raised.  (I like the river otter, moose, sea turtle, horned lizard, rattlesnake, and orca)

Ecology Club meetings for the next few months:

Jan. 5
Jan. 19
Feb. 2
Feb. 9 - special meeting until 5pm to organize Sweet Treats
Feb. 16
Mar. 2

(Watt Watchers meetings are every other week)

At the Jan. 5 meeting, we got even closer to getting our T-shirt design done and ready to go!  We are now working on both the shirt for members only, as well as the shirt to sell as a fundraiser ("Got Ice?").  The member shirts will have all the members' names on the back.  Be sure Mrs. Bergman has your name on the list that will be printed on the back!!!

At the Jan. 19 meeting, we will:
   1. be sure all members' names will be listed on the member shirts
   2. talk about the dance we are co-sponsoring (with Student Council &
CVHH) on Feb. 12.  We will sign up for various tasks, including a big
poster making day with the other 2 clubs on Jan. 28.
   3. plan the Valentine's Card fundraiser.  The "Sweet Treats" cards will need
to be cut & we need to sign up for selling the cards at lunch.

--> with the money raised from the dance and the Valentine's fundraiser, we will soon need to plan how to spend it!  What a good problem to have!

We had a fun time in the Canyon on Tues. Nov. 24, and brought back to the room purple American beautyberries, red yaupon berries, an earth star fungus, and 2 milkweedvine seed pods.  We'll be adding to our natural history collection with more Canyon trips too!

Here's a picture from our trip:

TWO Announcements:
1. Ecology Club photos will be on Thursday November 19 at 8:35 in the MPR.  Don't show up late!

2.  Next meeting is Tues. Nov. 24 and we will venture into the Canyon!  Please wear appropriate clothes/shoes.
You'll also be able to fill out a club membership form at that time, including email addresses, so that we can all be in touch better.

-->December 1 will be our next Watt Watchers meeting
-->December 8 will be our next Ecology Club meeting
**********

Next Ecology Club meeting is Tues Nov 10.  Bring your T-shirt designs and we will look at the options and vote on one.  We'll come up with a plan for selling and ordering.

We will also PLAN for a trip to the Canyon behind the school for our next meeting - Tues Nov 24, the day before Thanksgiving Break.  Wear appropriate shoes!  (If you can't make it this time, don't worry - we'll go again.)

There was no Watt Watchers meeting on Tues. Nov. 3rd - the next meeting will be Tues. Nov. 17.

Great news!  Canyon Vista (and all of RRISD) is about to start plastic recycling!  Plastic numbers 1 and 2 only - but those are the most common plastics thrown away at school campuses.  Here's a link to some good info about plastic recycling, and what all those plastic numbers mean:

Congratulations to this year's Ecology Club officers!

Co-Presidents: Nitya & Hyejee
Vice President: Joseph
Secretary: Sunay
Treasurer: Sarah C.

There were so many good candidates -- we look forward to everyone's participation in the club in various ways throughout the year.  If you're interested in holding a different kind of officer position, we may need other students to be committee heads in the future.

Oct. 20 - Watt Watchers will meet even though it's an Early Release day.  See you at 1:30 in room 410.

Oct. 27 - next Ecology Club meeting; first with our new officers!

Today's meeting afterschool (Tues Sept. 22) had 28 people show up - excellent!  We discussed the meeting schedule, and some plans for the year.
We will meet every other Tuesday for the Club meeting, starting next week.  Here are the planned meetings for the rest of the semester:

Sept. 29
Oct. 13
Oct. 20
Nov.3
Nov. 17
Dec. 1
Dec. 15

Every other week, those interested in Watt Watchers will gather and survey the school for lights left on!

Next week's agenda:   1. discuss T-shirt designs as a possible fundraiser
                                                2. nominate and elect officers
                                                3. discuss field trips
See you next week!

*********

Our first meeting to discuss the year's agenda will be held, finally, on Tues Sept. 15 afterschool 3:40-4:15.  Let's get the year off to a great start!

*********

Ecology Club members will join Mrs. Bergman and Mrs. Hoyle at the Club Fair as we speak with other students about joining the club.  The Club Fair will be held in the MPR from 6-7 pm on Wed. Sept. 9.

Future club meetings will be held on Tuesdays afterschool, until 4:15.

*********

The Ecology Club will also include members of the Animal Appreciation Club which met last year under Ms. Loontjer's sponsorship.  Members of both clubs are welcome, and we will participate in activities throughout the year that involve both ecology and animals!

Our next club meeting is Fri. Sept. 4 in my room (410) afterschool, until 4:30.  The agenda for the meeting is to decorate the tri-fold poster that we will display at the Club Fair next week - Wed. Sept. 9.

Please bring ecology and animal related pictures and images to help decorate the poster.  Photos of pets are welcome!

**********

The first Ecology Club meeting was Wed. Sept. 2 in my room (410) afterschool until 4:15.  We planned for the Club Fair (Wed. Sept. 9 from 6-7 pm), discussed club goals for the year, generally had a nice meet & greet!

**********

I am excited to be sponsoring (with Mrs. Hoyle) the Ecology Club this year!

Mrs. Rainey did a great job with the Ecology Club's first year at Canyon Vista, implementing recycling boxes in classroom, keeping an eye on all of the teachers' rooms with the Watt Watchers group, helping with the native plant display outside, amongst many things.

This year I plan to build on the momentum of the club and do even more cool & ecological efforts.
