This is going to be a busy week!
Monday, Feb. 8-Book Bingo green graphic organizers are due. Final copy of
Book Bingo #3 is due
February 22.
Reading TAKS practice, starting at 8:00.
Tuesday, Feb. 9-Field trip to the RRISD Performing Arts Center for the Canyon
Vista fine arts
department presentation. Students will learn more about the fine arts
choices Canyon Vista has for
sixth graders. We will be back before lunch. Permission slips need to be
turned in by Tuesday
morning.
Wednesday, Feb. 10-Early Release Day. Students will be released at 12:45.
Thursday, Feb. 11-Middle School choice sheets due for Canyon Vista! If you
will be attending a different middle school, you will need to complete a
choice sheet for the school you will be attending.
Friday, Feb. 12-Valentine party from 1:40-2:40. Please remember to bring a
box from home to
collect your Valentines, and bring a Valentine for everyone in our class! I
will send home a list of
names for Valentines in Monday folders.

This week, we will be studying:
Math: Probability
We are taking our assessment on probability this week.
Our next unit is geometry. We study two dimensional and three dimensional
geometry.
The word of the week is trapezoid.
Science: Energy
We will be reviewing and testing our Energy unit this week. Because of our
field trip this Tuesday,
our test has been postponed again. We will be testing this Friday, February
12.
Language Arts: lndependent reading, Reading comprehension practice,
Figurative language in poetry
We are using short reading passages to work on the skill of reading
comprehension.
Students will be completing a practice passage in class as well as working on
this skill with our reading homework this week. In addition to our specific
skill work, students will also complete a TAKS Master passage, and begin
honing our strategies for success on these longer passages.
Our non-fiction work this week includes Time for Kids magazine and reading in
our science book about how we use energy.
The rough draft graphic organizer for Book Bingo #3 is due February 8, and
the final copy of Book Bingo #3 is due February 22.
Social Studies: Chapter 14 in History Alive.
