December 12, 2009
I can't believe the semester is almost over. I am so proud of the progress everyone has made in my class.
Please remember your reading minutes for the month of December. It is a short month but you will still need to read a minimum of 600 minutes. Your December calendar will be due after the break.
In math we will continue to study fractions. We will continue with this after the break.
In social studies we will assess Chapter 11 about the key people that were either Patriots or Loyalists, on Thursday. We will continue to study about the Decleration of Independence in Chapter 12 and the district benchmark is on Wednesday. We had a great field trip to the capitol and Bob Bullock Texas History Museum last Thursday. Thanks to Dr. Nelson and Ms. Ali for going with us and riding the bus.
Science with Ms. Bray will continue to study weathering, erosion, and deposition. There will be an assessment this week, when you finish the topic. The graphic organizer is science words and will be due on Friday, but we voted unanimously to have the test on Thursday.
The title for your science fair experiment is and entry form are due on December 15th, so please spend some time researching your project. Please write neatly and have your parent sing the form at the bottom. All fifth graders will complete a Science Fair Experiment whether you enter the regional competition or not, the experiment will be a major grade. I have included some websites below for you to look at to determine what a testable question is. They are: http://school.discoveryeducation.com/sciencefaircentral and http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects.
We will continue studying poetry and figurative language. We will read in reading groups. Reading homework went home today and will be due on Thrusday this week.
