Biography
I love teaching at Kathy Caraway. I have lived all over, but I
am actually a Texas native. I moved to Austin several years ago with my
family and I am so happy to be in the Westwood Learning Community. My own
children attended Caraway (when it was North Oaks),Canyon Vista and West
Wood. I have a master’s degree in science and I worked in the scientific
field before I started teaching. I love teaching and science for the same
reason, the process of discovery, whether it is in the lab or in the
classroom. I hope my students develop a love of learning and questioning
that will carry over with them throughout their academic careers. I hope
they will learn to delight in the discovery.
Educational Philosophy
I believe all children can learn in an environment where they feel secure
and confident. I want all the students in my classroom to be successful and
have positive learning experiences. I strive to be a supportive facilitator
of their learning process because I believe in the power of the student.
Parents are the greatest resource for student learning. I will coordinate
my efforts with parents to provide the best learning experiences for each
individual child.
I want to develop not only good students, but also good people. I want my
students to become self-confident, self-reliant, compassionate individuals
who are respectful of others. I hope to develop a love of knowledge and a
desire for life-long learning. I will nurture this quest and challenge my
students to be the best they can be, both inside and outside of the
classroom. I look forward to learning from them in the exciting learning
situations we create together.
