Wed: Early Release - 12:45 PM
         Thursday: Valentine's Day  Party
Friday: ALAMO Trip!  Be here by 7:00 AM
The buses will not run that early, so if you are a bus rider, please make arrangements to arrive between 7:00 and 7:10 AM.   We will NOT call anyone when we return.  We return between 6:00 and 6:30 PM.  We will ONLY CALL if we are sure we will be later than 6:30 PM.  Please have your designated pick-up person ready at 6 on the CAR RIDERS' side of the building when we return.  Since the teachers will supervise the students until they all go home, please do not ask a student to meet a parent on the flagpole side of the building.   Pack lots of snacks for the bus!  Too much is better than too few.

Parents,

If your family chose to participate in the Bookspring Read-a-Thon the sealed donation envelopes are due at this time. Please send them in your student's backpack tomorrow. The absolute last day for envelopes is this Wednesday, February 10th. Representatives from Austin Reading is Fundamental will be coming to pick up the envelopes. Prizes will be delivered as soon as we receive them.

Reminder:  Snack time in the morning is for HEALTHY snacks only, and must follow the Foods of Minimal Nutrition Value.

1.     An elementary school campus may not serve or provide access for students to FMNV at any time anywhere on school premises during the school day.

Schools must prevent students from accessing FMNV on school premises. Such food and beverages may not be sold or given away on school premises by the school, school or non-school organizations, teachers, parents, or any other person or group during the school day.

I have noticed that several students are eating candy bars and less-than-nutritious snacks.  Also, please be aware we have a student who comes into our classroom with allergies to peanuts and peanut-related snacks.  This includes anything that has been processed in a facility in which nuts are processed.  So please be aware and limit peanut items brought into the classroom that are not intended for your student's lunch.

Valentine's Day is coming all too soon!  Wyatt's mom is designing another fantastic classroom event.  My only rule is: If you bring a valentine for one student in the classroom, then bring one for each person in the classroom.  Special valentines to a classmate should be shared outside of school.  Of course, it is fine to bring them to friends in other rooms without having to bring another whole class set.  At this age some students may not want to pass out valentine's to everyone.  That's OK, but we will make containers to collect valentines and it is fun to receive them from our classmates.  In other words, everybody usually does it anyway.  Handmade notes or cards are great and a fine alternative to store bought cards.  Candy is OK to include that day.

It's cold, worse now, cool mornings and warm afternoons) and probably we will probably have more cold days.  PLEASE make sure coats, hats, sweaters, gloves, scarves, anything that can come off during the day (layered shirts also!) have a NAME on them.  The school continues to send out messages about checking lost and found.  It amazes me what is has been left in our own classroom between lunch and pack-up time.  We try to have an all-call for loose clothing each afternoon, but LABELS will sure help!

Also, somekind of label on backpacks is needed.  I know not to suggest a first name, but when I need to send a backpack to the nurse for a sick child, 21 backpacks without names are a lot!  Maybe a name inside the zipper?

I have a new page, Field Trips.  This is a copy of the forms sent home to you on paper.  If you have not received these, ask!.  The Alamo permission has gone home in last Monday's folder.

Math  - fractions

Math on line -   Parents: you can check on your student's progress by clicking on the the progress button on the top of the page when your student has logged on.  If you would like to see this, and you are not getting  the password from them, let me know!
Multiplication facts are HERE!.  Now is the time to continue math facts with your students at home to make sure they are ready to USE the facts through 12 x 12!

Keep working on multiplication problems at home!!!!  Whatever strategies the student has discovered to get a correct answer is just fine, but we need all the practice we can get!
   Don't forget subtraction practice!

Reviewing

Each student has an account with First in Math.  Students work to solve problems using fact skills by playing games.  As the students complete Skills games they will receive certificates of completion for each level successfully completed.  We compete as a class against other Caraway classes and classes across the state.

Writing

NightWrites is a weekly writing Journal 4th graders use to regularly practice writing skills we learn this year.  The format may change from month to month as we improve and increase the skills.    All students will be writing in a Night Writes.   We've gotten some GREAT compositions - just look on the board in the hallway when you're here!
