I am a Caraway parent, Just like you!
My 12 year old son started at "North Oaks" in 2002, and is now entering
7th grade at Canyon Vista.
My daughter will be starting 4th grade at Caraway this year.
Over the years, I have been a classroom, library, cafeteria,
and a PTA volunteer at our school.
I strongly believe that the more involved I can be with our school, the
better for my child and her classmates.
I look forward to providing our school community with resources and support,
so all the families at Caraway can have an enriching and rewarding elementary
school experiance.
As a PSS my job is to support parents at our campus by doing 3 things:
1) providing information on resources
2) organizing educational parent workshops
3) maintaining a warm and welcoming PRO Center.
Provide Resources to Parents - Just moved to the area and need to know where
the nearest cleaners is? Daughter is having problems in math and you'd like
to find a tutor? The downturn in the economy has affected you directly and
you need assistance paying your electric bill? Have a toddler at home and
would love to find a great mommy and me group? Want more information on
parent organizations like PTA, SEPAC, parent book clubs, parent walking
clubs, booster clubs? A PSSs job is to provide information on available
resources to all parents on their campus when needed and to link them to
these resources.
Maintaining the PRO Center - A PSSs job is to oversee the functions of the
PRO Center. It should be a place that is warm, inviting and welcoming for
parents. PSSs can recruit parents to volunteer in the PRO Center, provide
handouts on resources and school information, have parents use the center to
do volunteer work while their young children play, and work closely with PTA,
SEPAC and other parent organizations to provide various volunteer
opportunities .
Plan Workshops A PSSs role is to organize and facilitate educational and
informational workshops at their campus or in the school community.
Cyberbullying, Mean Girls, Watch Dogs, Preparing your Child for College, TAKS
Test Taking Tips...are some workshops that PSSs have organized .
