Listed below by grade level are the Texas Essential Knowledge and skills we
will be introducing during the second 9 weeks in Physical Education.
Kindergarten will be:
Maintaining balance while bearing weight on a variety of body parts.
Describing and selecting physical activities that provide opportunities for
enjoyment and challenge.
Describing the benefits from involvement in daily physical activity.
Observing and describing the immediate effect of physical activity on the
heart, breathing rate and perspiration.
First Grade will be:
Demonstrating on cue key elements in overhand throwing, underhand throwing,
and catching.
Distinguishing between active and inactive lifestyles.
Describing the importance of protective equipment in preventing injury.
Second Grade will be:
Demonstrating mature form in walking, hopping, and skipping.
Demonstrating simple stunts that exhibit personal agility.
Walking in time to a 4/4 underlying beat.
Demonstrating on cue key elements of hand dribbling, foot dribbling, kicking
and striking.
Identifying foods that enhance a healthy heart.
Explaining the need for foods as a source of nutrients that provide energy
for physical activity.
Describing the negative effects of smoking on the lungs and the ability to
exercise.
Describing the need for rest and sleep in caring for the body.
Selecting and using appropriate protective equipment in preventing injuries.
Identifying safe cycling and road practices.
Third Grade will be:
Demonstrating proper form and smooth transitions during combinations of
fundamental locomotor and body control skills.
Demonstrating mature form in jogging, running, and leaping.
Moving in and out of a balanced position with control.
Identifying similar positions in a variety of movements.
Lifting and supporting own weight in selected activities that develop
muscular strength and endurance.
Distinguishing between aerobic and anaerobic activities.
Identifying foods that increase or reduce bodily functions.
Fourth Grade will be:
Demonstrating body control in jumping and landing.
Describing key elements of mature movement patterns of throwing for distance
or speed.
Explaining the relationship between physical activity and stress relief.
Demonstrating stress relief activities.
Fifth Grade will be:
Demonstrating appropriate use of levels in dynamic movement situations.
Demonstrating combinations of locomotor and manipulative skills in complex
and/or game-like situations.
Identifying common phases such as preparation, movement, follow through, or
recovery in a variety of movement skills.
Self-monitoring the heart rate during exercise.
Identifying the relationship between optimal body function and a healthy
eating plan.
Describing the changes that occur in the cardiorespiratory system as a result
of smoking and how those changes affect the ability to perform physical
activity.
