Reading

In reading each week your child will be given high-frequency
vocabulary words that they will be assessed on each Friday. These
words are the ones that I send home on Mondays.
Please keep these words for future practice. This week January 5-9
the word wall words are: get, this, that, for, out, jump. In the
classroom these words become a part of the word wall along with the
20 sight words learned in kindergarten. The word wall is used by the
students frequently when they are writing so it is important that
your child learns the words.

Word Wall Activities to practice at home:
1. Sort the words according to one syllable, two syllables, more
than two syllables, beginning consonants, short and long vowels.
2. Choose one word and say as many rhymes for the word as you can.
3. Write a story using the word walls words and draw a picture.
4. Make a second copy of the word wall words and play concentration.

In reading this week, January 5-9 we will be reading I am Responsible.
Your child should read his/her home reader until he/her is fluent.
That means no stumbling over the words. Our focus of skills will be
introducing words with sh, th, ch,and or. We will be reviewing main
idea, contractions, and predicting a story's ending.
