Wow! It is already the second six-weeks!! We are really getting into the swing of things. Some important things for this six-weeks:

GRAMMAR: Your child will receive a "2nd six-weeks grammar information" handout on Tuesday, October 7th. This maps out what grammar concepts we will be studying this six-weeks and pages in the grammar workbook and Student Writer's Handbook (referred to as grammar packet) student's can refer to for notes and practice. There will be a quiz during the 3rd week and the 6th week over these concepts. Every grammar quiz will have some E-Error (spelling) words on it!

VOCABULARY: Our vocabulary workbooks are finally in!! We will be doing Units 1 and 2 this six-weeks. The students will have time to work on these assignments during their "Bell Work" throughout the week, but will most likely need to finish at home. The weeklyschedule is as follows:

Synonyms/Antonyms (SA) will be due on the first Wednesday of the Unit

Choosing the Right Word and Vocabulary in Context (CTRW/VIC) will be due on the first Friday of each unit.

Completing the Sentence (CTS) will be due the second Wednesday of each unit.

The quiz will be on the second Friday of each unit.

The test over both units will be during the 5th week of the six-weeks.

LITERATURE: We will be reading The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer this six-weeks. Your child needs to have the book in class beginning Monday or Tuesday (October 6th/7th). Keep your eye on the website for the reading schedule. The novel is split into five parts. We will read one part per week. Students will have some class time to read, but are expected to do the majority of it at home and during R2W time in Dragon Den.

WRITING: We will be working on literary analysis and persuasion this six-weeks. Students will be learning the "3 chunk paragraph" format. We will practice this format throughout the six-weeks, and will have a formal assessment at the end of the six-weeks that will count as a test grade.
