GRADING GUIDELINES
DAILYWORK--40% of your grade
Daily work are assignments completed in the computer lab. The grade will be
based on the following:
Formatting: If you are given specifications for margins, fonts, and point
size, style and arrangement of text, you will be graded on how well you
followed that. If there are no specifications, then at a minimum, it is
expected that you use the default margins.
Spelling: It is expected that you use a Spell Checker. You will be penalized
for spelling errors.
Typing Errors: Please proofread your work! You will be graded on the
accuracy of your typing. This includes the following:
There should be one space between words
There is no space before a comma or semicolon;
There is one space after a comma or semicolon;
There are two spaces after all punctuation that end sentences. This includes
periods, question marks, and exclamation points.
There are two spaces after colons (:).
Grammatical Errors: Again, please proofread! Common grammatical mistakes
include: using the wrong form of to (too or two), there (their or they're),
its or it's, and so on. A spell checker will not help with this. Take your
draft paper to someone to check for you.
TESTS--60% of your grade
Tests are combined with your assignment work. Certain assignments will be
computed as test.
ROOM RESPECT--10% of your grade
Room Respect is very simply a measure of your behavior in and treatment of
the room. It is composed of the five areas listed below. Make sure you read
over the Classroom guidelines section.
Caloric Substance Abuse: This involves having gum, candy, water, food--
anything of this type--in the lab. In case you were wondering, sugarless gum
and candy containing no calories are also forbidden!
Computer Care: This involves any mistreatment of the computers and includes
that annoying little habit some of you will have before we get started (e.g.
playing with the keyboard or mouse). Please do not touch the computers when
you come into the room. Wait until you are told to get started.
Area Cleanup: Before you leave the lab, check to see that there is nothing
left behind on or around your station. Pick up any books, papers, pens,
pencils, etc. that are at your station or on the floor around it.
Chair Care: This involves two (2) issues: rocking your chair and leaving it
out. There is a safety issue associated with your chair: you may fall over
and hit your head on the furniture. Consistant leaning in your chair will
result in the chair being take from you. Before you leave the class for the
period, please make sure your chair is pushed under the computer table.
