It is a copy of our rules for athletics. There is one correction that needs to be made and that is that the shorts color for athletics is now DARK PURPLE not black as it states in the letter. Announcements for '09-10: On May 16th at 10:00am in the McNeil HS gym, doctors will be available to conduct physical exams on athletes for the upcoming school year. The cost is $20 and the money will benefit the training departments of RRISD. We will be passing out paperwork within the next two weeks. ***** There will be a parent meeting for the Cedar Valley football team on August 19th at 6:30pm in the gym. It will last about an hour. T-shirts and shorts should be on sale (or available for pick-up if you ordered in advance). The coaches will answer questions after Coach Holloway goes over the basics. If you are unable to attend please email Coach Willis at Don_Willis@roundrockisd.org. All physical paperwork is due on or before the meeting. ***** We will issue football equipment to players that have all of their paperwork turned in (including a physical) at the following times on August 20th: 8th grade: 9:00-11:00am 7th grade: 1:00-3:00pm ***** Remember that no equipment will be issued without a valid copy of a physical on file with the coaches. If you miss the time scheduled for your grade you must wait until the first day of school to get your locker and equipment. ***** Please see the link on this website to view and print the '09 football schedule. ***** Tryouts for new students will be held either the first or second day of school at 3:40pm. It will last 60-90 minutes and will involve running and agility tests. Wear shorts and a t-shirt and bring a water bottle. You must have a physical to tryout. There will be no make-ups. You may e-mail questions using the link on this website or e-mail Coach Willis. He will check his e-mail periodically throughout the summer. All of the coaches should be back on or about August 10th. You may also call Coach Holloway at 428-2365 and leave a voice message. **************************************************************************** Our athletic seasons have come to an end this school year. Student tickets are still $1.00. This is the first price increase since 1992. INFORMATION ABOUT FALL ATHLETICS CLASS 1. You have to be on the football team to be in the athletics class for the fall semester. Basketball tryouts are in November and if you make the team you will be enrolled in the athletics class at that time. You do NOT have to be in the class to run cross-country in the fall or track in the spring. 2. You must have a medical physical. Physicals will be given at McNeil HS in the gym area on Saturday morning, May 16th. They are $20.00. All proceeds are being donated to RRISD athletics-so it is a fair price and it is for a good cause. The doctors are donating their time to help us out. Please fill out ALL forms and return them. Several signatures are required by the parent AND the athlete. The only form that you cannot fill out yourself is the last page and that will be completed by a doctor. IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE YOUR OWN DOCTOR, YOU STILL NEED TO RETURN ALL PAPERWORK TO US. WE WILL GIVE YOUR SON A SEPARATE FORM TO TAKE TO HIS DOCTOR AT A LATER TIME BEFORE HE LEAVES FOR THE SUMMER. 3. Football tryouts for NEW STUDENTS or for 8th graders that did not have the opportunity to try out this spring will be held on the first or second day of school from 3:45-5:00pm. You must wear shorts and a t-shirt (it will be hot) and bring a completed physical form with you (or have one on file with us) in order to try out. It will be non-contact and will consist of tests that measure height, weight, agility, speed, and eye-hand coordination. Bring a water bottle if you think you will need one. Grades and discipline records will also be a factor in our decision. 4. The coaches will be back around August 10th. Please e-mail any questions using the link found on this website or call 428-2365 and leave a message. We will place blank physical forms in the front office of the school if you need them this summer. We will have a mandatory parent meeting the week prior to the beginning of the school year. It usually lasts a little over an hour and it will be held in the evening. The exact date and time will be posted on this website as soon as it becomes known. 5. What you need for the class: black cleats, running shoes, and an athletic uniform- we will sell those in August. All other football gear will be provided. **************************************************************************** Below is a copy of an e-mail sent from the the athletic trainers regarding staff infections and the importance of washing your clothes frequently. Here is the website parents can go to learn more about staph infections and how to prevent them. If you need anything else let me know. Remind your players to cover all scrapes and cuts. Inspect all scrapes and cuts after practice to make sure they are clean. Require you athletes to shower (educate them on proper showering) Do not share towels Take laundry home daily to have washed and dried completely http://www.uil.utexas.edu/athletics/health/staph_athlete.html If parents have any other questions they can call myself or Kirk Melissa Harrington Athletic Trainer McNeil High School Austin, Texas 512-464-6527
