About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
I have been married to my husband for 12 years and have identical twin boys that were born in February 2009. I absolutly LOVE being a Mommy. I graduated college with a BA in studio art from the University of Texas at Dallas. I continually practice art in my personal life with the subject matter of whatever my current life events might be. I have taught art for eight years in the public schools and still enjoy every minute of it.
Mission Label:
Mission
The mission in my art class is that Art is about PROBLEM SOLVING. An artist is presented with an idea or problem, then the artist tries to figure out how to make it work. My teaching strategy is just this,I present the idea/problem to the students and then let them figure out how to execute THEIR OWN IDEAS to resolve the problem. THIS IS A LIFE SKILL to be used in every dimension of a person's life. I believe each one of us is a creative individual and my role as a teacher is to help each child realize their potential in the area of art. My motto in class is that There are no Mistakes in Art; instead you take what you have created and make it into something else. Many great artists’ best accomplishments were from an idea that they thought was a “mistake”. What we need to realize as individuals is that this thought process is the beginning of a great idea, and I eagerly look forward to encouraging your child to succeed with their creative ideas.
