Helping Your Child With Homework
Have your child use a daily planner to record all homework assignments in every day.
Request a Home Access Center (HAC) password from the office and show your child how to use it to check for missing grades.
Have your child print each of his/her teacher's assignment pages from the Cedar Valley website at the beginning of the week and then check to make sure all homework is being completed throughout the week.
Have your child start with the hardest homework each night so that he/she is fresh when completing it.
Establish a regular time and place in your home where your child does his/her homework.
Eliminate distractions like TV, cell phones, and iPods while your child is doing homework.
Check on your child periodically to ensure he/she is on task and making progress with the homework assignment.
Homework should be review of material already taught so parental assistance with homework should only be at a minimal level.
Make sure your child is turning in his/her homework when it is due. You can check HAC to determine this.
Help your child organize his/her binder periodically to ensure that homework and other assignments are being properly filed.
Contact your child's teacher if your child is struggling regularly with getting his/her homework done.
