Please have your child work on his/her IEP goals and objectives throughout
the week at home to reinforce learning done at school. If you would like
a copy of them, please let me know.
Your child will have an orange homework folder sent home that is specific to
his/her academic needs. Please help your child get in the routine of
showing you the folder each day, completing any work in it, and returning
the folder to his/her backpack to bring to school the next day.
READING:
Students will bring a book they've read in class at least once a week to read
with an adult at home. (found in their orange homework folders) Don't forget
to sign off on the reading log after your child reads the story to you.
Include any comments you may have on his/her progress or difficulties with
the story.
SPELLING:
Please help your child learn his/her spelling words by completing activities
from the tic tac toe board.
MATH:
A great way to help your child learn math facts is to do daily drills with
flashcards for 5 or 10 minutes a day. This will give your child confidence
with written work and help reduce the number of hash marks he/she makes
to "show how many" is in the problem.
Practice money skills by counting change at home. Ask your child to find
various amounts of money from a handful of coins. For example, hand your
child a group of coins and say, "I need 38 cents. Could you get the coins I
need from this pile of money?"
Practice telling time skills by asking your child to tell you the time on
various clocks around the house. You might even say, "We will (eat, go to
the store, watch a T.V. show, read, etc.) in 15 minutes. What time will it
be when we _____?"
A blue folder should also come home daily in your child's backpack. Please
check it to see if there are any papers that you will need to return to
school. This is where updated IEP's, report cards, school notices, field
trip permission slips, and other important forms will be found. On the "keep
at home" side are papers that are no longer needed at school. Please remove
the papers on this side as they come home.
As with the homework folder, please help your child get in the routine of
showing you the folder daily and returning the folder to his/her backpack to
bring to school the next day.
