Why should I learn spanish?
Spanish is the second language of the United States, one of the
six Official
languages of the United Nations, and an important language in
today's
business world. Several hundred million people worldwide speak
Spanish as a
first or second language.
How much do I need to study to be successful in Spanish class?
Learning a new language is challenging, but very rewarding. It is
best to
study a bit everyday rather than wait until right before the test
and try
to "cram" all the material into your brain. That
doesn't work. For most
students a minimum of 30 minutes a day will be needed outside of
class to be
successful in Spanish.
How do I know if I have homework?
Homework assignments are written on the Agenda board each day and
is posted
on the calendar(WSCAL1) of the website. If the homework page is
blank, there is
no homework for that night.
How much does homework count in this class?
In Spanish IB we don't grade homework, we make corrections to it
so that you can see what you did well and have a chance to ask
questions, correct and review what you might have had some
trouble with. It is your responsibility to use your red pen to
make corrections whenever we go over the homework in class and to
ask questions about things you don't understand.
Will I be fluent in Spanish after taking this course?
No. Learning a language thoroughly requires much more than fourty-
five minutes
a day five days a week. Some of you who speak languages other
than English
understand this quite well. You must be dedicated and look for
opportunities
outside of class to practice your Spanish. Reading books and
newspapers,
watching Spanish television programs and listening to music in
Spanish are
excellent ways to improve listening comprehension. Also, look for
every
opportunity to interact with native Spanish speakers so that you
can improve
your speaking skills. They will appreciate the fact that you are
trying to
learn their language and will usually gladly engage you in
conversation. Above
all, be patient and persistent. This course will provide you with
a solid base
to work with if you do your best. With time and hard work you can
become a
fluent Spanish speaker!
What is the grading policy in Spanish IB?
I follow the Cedar Valley Grading Policy for 8th Grade of 60% on
Tests and 40% on daily work
How are discipline problems handled in Spanish IB?
I adhere to the Cedar Valley Middle Shool policy on discipline. I
attempt to correct most problems in class, however detentions may
be assigned for minor violations when redirection is not heeded
and parent contact and office referral may be needed for more
serious violations of school and class policy.
