Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts! I'm very excited about the school year and I look forward to helping all of my students increase their interest in reading, writing, and general love of all forms of literature! Below is a list of expectations and class policies and procedures. Welcome to 7th grade and to my class!
What I expect of you:
Personal Best - You give me 100 percent of your effort.
Respectful and Responsible – You are respectful to me and your fellow classmates and you follow all rules and guidelines to make the class run smoothly.
Only Appreciations -- Use appropriate language and be accepting of everyone in class.
Work Ethically - You come prepared to learn and participate in a positive way.
Lifelong Learner - Learn the skills in this class to be well prepared for 8th grade.
What you can expect from me:
Personal Best - To teach you things that are important for you to know.
Respectful and Responsible - To believe in your ability to do the work.
Only Appreciations - To celebrate your successes and to not give up on you.
Work Ethically - To maintain a safe, productive learning environment and to listen to you when you need someone to hear you out.
Lifelong Learner - To improve my teaching from things I learn from you.
Rules of the class:
1. Be ready to learn when class begins.
2. No profanity or put downs.
3. Bring all your materials to class every day.
4. Stay on task during all work times.
5. Follow all directions the first time they are given.
Homework
Homework assignments are due at the beginning of class. Remember, copying any part of another student’s work will result in a zero on the assignment. Cedar Valley policy states that all work should be turned in on the day it is due. Any work turned in the next day will have 20 points taken off the grade. No late work will be accepted after the assessment of that unit.
Make-up Work
I will keep track of absences, but it is your responsibility to consult the weekly agenda and complete in a timely fashion any assignments you missed. Make-up work should be submitted within two days of your return. It is your responsibility to schedule a date to make up any quizzes or tests.
Grading Policy
Daily Work/Homework/Quizzes 45%
Tests/Major Projects 55%
Finishing assignments, ESPECIALLY major projects, on time is very important. Late work can drastically change your grade.
