This High School credit course integrates the five Program goals of the TEKS
for LOTE: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and
Communities. It is a study of Hispanic language and culture incorporating
the development of LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING, and WRITING within the five
Program goals. The main goal for this course is for students to progress
towards a novice level ability in Spanish in school and in the community.
This course provides students with opportunities to develop skills within the
five Program Goals of the TEKS for L.O.T.E. Students will expand their
knowledge of Hispanic language and culture. Students function at a novice to
novice-intermediate level of proficency, depending on their background.
Modes of Communication and Performance Expectations:
Interpersonal: The student is expected to engage in oral and written
exchanges to socialize, to provide and obtain information, to express
preferences and feelings, and to satisfy basic needs.
Interpretive: The student is expected to interpret and demonstrate an
understanding of simple, straightforward spoken and written language such as
instructions, directions, announcements, reports, conversations, brief
descriptions, and narrations.
Presentational: The student is expected to present information and convey
short messages on everday topics to listeners and readers.
Important Note: Students will earn high school credit upon successful
completion of this course. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 70 or
above.
Students in Spanish IA may not continue into the IB level unless he/she has a
70 or above overall grade. Students completing both levels, will receive 1
high school credit.
